Das Embargo gegen Kuba, und damit auch gegen kubanische Zigarren, liegt vielen US-Aficionados schwer auf dem Magen - respektive auf dem Geldbeutel. Fortune schreibt unter "Cuban cigars: lighting up (legally)" vom Bedürfnis des Geniessers nach Havannas und der einzigen - legalen - Möglichkeit der Befriedigung: Der Kauf von Pre-Embargo-Havannas. Kubanische Zigarren also, die vor 1962 in die USA eingeführt wurden. Die mehrheitlich kleinformatigen Montecristos, Romeo Y Julietas, Ramon Allones und H. Upmanns kosten zwischen 150 bis 300 Dollar:

(...) Indeed, real Cubans are rare and they're not cheap: They run from about $150 to $300, and at luxury restaurants or hotels they can ring up at more than $500. "Buying pre-embargos are like buying a diamond, you have to go to the right person," Berko says.
